Dr. James P. Walsh received his PhD from CU Boulder in 2010, specializing in Irish American history. His dissertation, Michael Mooney and the Leadville Irish, examines a community of Irish immigrant miners and their families in 19th century Leadville. This was the largest Irish community in the history of Colorado, numbering as many as 5,000. Dr. Walsh has taught at UCD for the past fourteen years. He also teaches part time at Regis University, where he serves as Lead Faculty for the Irish Studies program. Walsh is the founder of the Romero Theater Troupe, which brings Irish American and other important history to stage throughout the Front Range.
Jim along with his co-authors Dennis Gallagher and Tom Noel, wrote Irish Denver in the attempt to illuminate Irish history and culture in Denver, to pull together the 160+ year history of Irish people in this region and their influence on the development of our state.
